I'm not a fan of The Alarm. I don't think they suck or anything, it's just not music that really spoke to me. That being said, I was hired last week to shoot Mike Peters from The Alarm doing a solo set at Johnny D's in Somerville, MA. The openers, Kenny Chambers and Jimmy Weeks, were no slouches. Damn good songs! Then, this Welsh dude gets on stage and everyone is there to see him. Hooting and hollering and what-have-you. So, I start shooting away and dang? The songs are pretty good! I went back and listened to some Alarm recordings and realized that it wasn't the songs themselves that I didn't like. It was the way they were produced. Again, not bad, just not something that spoke to me. In between the songs, Mike told Alarm stories and I am always a sucker for rock stories. This particular picture is of Mike telling one of those stories. I love the way his hands are in this picture. He's totally connecting with the audience here. I also love the darkness in this picture. Proper rock club, ya know?
